Royal Water Gardens

Pura Taman Ayun, meaning 'Beautiful Garden' in Balinese, is a royal water temple that served as the main temple of the Mengwi kingdom. Built in 1634, this magnificent temple complex is surrounded by wide moats, creating a peaceful sanctuary in the heart of Mengwi.

The temple's architecture is a stunning example of classical Balinese temple architecture, featuring multi-tiered meru towers and beautifully landscaped gardens. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it represents the Balinese philosophy of harmony between God, humans, and nature. The temple complex includes traditional split gates, expansive courtyards, and various shrines and pavilions that showcase the artistic and architectural achievements of ancient Bali.
