The Mother Temple

Pura Besakih, known as the Mother Temple of Bali, is the largest and most important Hindu temple complex on the island. Perched on the slopes of Mount Agung, Bali's highest volcano, this magnificent temple has been a spiritual center for over a thousand years.

The complex consists of 86 temples, including the central and most important temple, Pura Penataran Agung. Built on six levels, terraced up the slope, the temple complex reflects the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana - the three causes of prosperity and well-being: harmony with God, with people, and with nature. The temple's dramatic location and grand architecture, combined with its spiritual significance, make it a must-visit destination for those seeking to understand Bali's rich cultural heritage.
